Tennis FAQs
Tennis is a racket sport played between two players (singles) or two teams of two players each (doubles), where the objective is to hit a ball over a net into the opponent's court. Points are scored when the opponent fails to return the ball within the court boundaries.
Types of Tennis Serve
- A flat serve is hard, powerful and often the fastest serve, making it ideal for a first serve in a tennis game.
- Slice serves also tend to sit low on the court due to their sidespin and can get your opponent out of position, giving you an opening to take advantage.
- Kick serves have less power, more control and typically done by advanced players, allowing the server to hit specifically to a player’s weakness.
- Underhand serves fall short and light over the net (like a drop shot), leading the ball to bounce twice before the returning player has a chance to reach it.
- It is less commonly used, mostly taught to children just starting to play and regarded as the most controversial serve.

Tennis Racket 101
- Your racket should feel like an extension of your arm, so pick one that matches your style and personality.
- Bigger heads are more forgiving, while smaller ones offer more control. Choose what suits your game.
- Lighter rackets are easier to maneuver, but heavier ones pack more punch. Strike a balance that feels right for you.
- Make sure the grip size feels comfortable in your hand. You want to be able to hold on tight without cramping up.
- Consider the string pattern, open for more spin, tight for more control. It's all about how you want to play the game.
- A stiffer frame offers more power, while a flexible one gives you a better feel. What's your preference?
- Don't just go for the big names. Try out different brands and find your perfect match.
- Remember, expensive doesn't always mean better. Find a racket that fits your game and your wallet.
- Consider where your game is heading, not just where it is now. Choose a racket you can grow with.
- At the end of the day, choose the racket that makes you feel like a champion when you step onto the court!
